Werner Herzog takes viewers on a journey to the Siberian Taiga, where 300 people live in the small village of Bakhtia at the river Yenisei, far from civilization and accessible only by boat or helicopter. Without phones, running water or access to modern medicine, the daily routines of the locals have gone almost unchanged for centuries. The life of this traditional community is seen through the activities of a trapper over the course of one year.
