A look at the year history of Fernald Center, the first publicly-funded institution in the U.S. for the mentally and physically disabled. Filmmaker William C. Rogers utilizes interviews with past and present residents and their families who share both positive and negative experiences, which illustrate different approaches to care for the mentally disabled in the U.S. since 1848, when Fernald was established.
