Leonie Gimour's life spanned continents, wars and cultures in her courageous, passionate quest for freedom and self-expression. As an independent young woman, seeking to overcome restrictive female roles in turn-of-the-century America, Leonie is retained by the famous Japanese poet Yone Noguchi as his editor. Their relationship evolves into a romantic one, but Yone leaves her abruptly when she becomes pregnant. Following him to Japan, she is left alone to raise their son in a society with few opportunities for women. The son she nurtures and guides becomes the world renowned artist Isamu Noguchi.
