Short Film Synopsis:

Chief Doreen
of the Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation

Doreen grew up in the backwoods of Sharbot Lake hunting and fishing, however it wasn’t the perfect utopia! Doreen learned at an early age to keep muted and repress her true native identity for fear of prejudice. Guided by providence and spirit, Doreen started to overcome her inner demons when she got involved in Algonquin politics during the 80s’, specifically land claim and reconciliation. In 1999, she was elected as the first female Chief in the Algonquin nation. Chief Doreen’s insight, sage understanding of issues and calm matriarchal presence, have garnered her respect from other Chiefs and a close working relationship with Provincial and Federal political leaders. This is a story about making better choices.
