Job Description

I’m looking for a freelance Director of Photography for a current international cable travel series that has just been approved for Season 2. Audience reach is approximately 30 million homes. Episode premiered in July 2019. The ideal candidate would possess travel and/or lifestyle experience and will have worked on long-format/30 minute episodes before. This is a part-time job although filming will last approximately on and off throughout 1 year.

Looking for a hard-working, detail-oriented, creative individual who is based in Los Angeles that can be part of my small team to create beautiful and entertaining TV shows that tell stories that inspire, raise awareness and make an impact within communities and around the world. Also want to ensure we have fun along the way and check off an epic travel bucket list.

The details:

-This is a 13 episode 30 minute series.

-Pay is BY EPISODE not by number of shoot days. Typically we shoot for 3.5-4.5 days plus travel time. While travel in itself can be exhausting, I by no means am trying to go overboard. I’ve been producing travel shows for 10 years and know what we need, don’t like to overshoot, and usually wrap each day on the road by sunset so there is time each evening to load footage, etc. Days are usually from 9am-6pm.

-If you know your schedule in advance, happy to work around prior commitments, your child’s birthday, an anniversary, etc.

-***MUST have your own equipment and have to fit it all in one suitcase + a carry-on. You are responsible for camera, drone, mic packs. I wear many hats in my role as showrunner, on-camera host, and off-line editor so my DP will have to wear a few as well. Audio is extremely important so must have experience working mic packs. (Max is 2 people on camera at the same time) There is no room for audio mistakes for this so please only apply if you know what you're doing. Usually don’t use a stabilizer, lighting or a tripod as we run and gun it so must have steady hands or a camera with a built-in stabilizer. There is usually time for additional b-roll hours if you want to bring the extra toys but a lot of the episode is walk and talk on the streets so have to travel like a “vlogger” and be able to be inconspicuous in certain countries.

-Social media posts are part of my deals with PR companies, tourism boards, and hotel brands. Content is key! My DP must have a portfolio that includes beautiful photography as we’ll also be taking photos in scenic locations. It’s a great way to build your brand digitally as well.

While this is a low budget production, the experience is absolutely priceless so if you’re dreaming of seeing the world, staying in 5-star accommodations, and capturing different cultures on camera, please send me your videographer reels, clips to past work, and WHY you are a great fit for this job! If I feel the same, I’d first like to meet in Los Angeles and do a quick test run to see how we vibe, how you move, as well as check camera skills, audio, etc.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
