Job Description

Previs Supervisor

We are a full-service Stop Motion Animation Studio. We are currently looking for a talented Previs Supervisor to build and lead a team of artists and create amazing pre-vis animatics for our award-winning projects! The Previs Supervisor is responsible for taking the Director’s vision and incorporating that into the previsualization animatic process. They will collaborate with the project Producer, Director and Editor to help visually conceptualize each script into a cohesive, clear and thematic animatic. Supervisors will manage their team of artists to determine work assignments and workload, manage delivery schedule and produce animatics on time and budget.

Responsibilities:
Work with Producer and HR to interview, hire and assemble a talented team of Previs Artists.
Collaborate with the Director, Producer and other creative leads on the project to design & deliver effective previs animatics for each script.
Help design and implement workflow pipeline for previs, and stay up to date on future previs technical and R&D developments.
Confidence to contribute to the pre-production process as a key creative with a willingness to form a strong bond with the director, and other departments such as: vfx, editorial, production design, and production management.
Must demonstrate excellent filmmaking skills and storytelling ability.
Ability to create shots that clearly depict staging, blocking, camera motion, and character performance.
Proactive, concise and clear communication with top players in a production environment.
Take responsibility to meet the pressures and demands of a production schedule, work with the Producer and Production Management team to deliver the previs on time and on budget.
Daily review of assets and shot work in progress created by team.
Mentor and support the previs artists on their team, motivate and provide effective feedback to artist, train artists and understand how to develop artist abilities, set goals/deadlines.
You should have a keen knowledge and passion for technology and its application to the storytelling process.
Take responsibility for your team’s successes and failings, working to improve them at all times.
Handle the pressures and demands of production with calm, grace and polite candor.
Work seamlessly with the members of your team in a professional and courteous manner to bring out the best in all they do.
Provide concise, fair, written and verbal feedback to artists on the team.
Maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment.
Communicate job expectations and enforce systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
Be proactive in helping those around you improve their skills and the quality of their work.
Support the animation crew by providing camera statistics and setup diagrams.
Work with Technical Director to consistently improve our tools, pipeline and working methodologies.
Participate in and contribute to the overall direction of the company through group meetings, brain-trust sessions and proactive initiatives.

Required Qualifications and Skills:
2+ years of experience as a Previs Supervisor working in the game or TV / film industries.
Strong & proven leadership, communication and problem solving skills.
Extensive experience of Autodesk Maya, Adobe After Effects, Autodesk MotionBuilder, Shotgun and anything else you think we should be using.
Strong creative and technical skills in photo-realistic 3D animation and competency in all other areas of 3D including modelling, texturing, lighting, FX and rendering.
Understanding of still camera photography. Capable of shooting well exposed and composed photos.
